Photo-realism and trompe l'oeil, with some global political allegory
thrown in. After September 11, I started looking for some sort of image
I could use to express my range of emotions. Here is the world, locked
in time and space, with all eyes focused on North America. Somehow the
BBC reporters I could find on cable TV channels that day had a better
idea of what was going on over here than any US reporters. We were all
in shock. The things we were seeing simply did not happen in America.
- The chrome still shines, but the body is rusty.
- The bright paint is nearly gone.
- One of the founders of the industry, Oldsmobile is no longer made.
- Restoration is possible, but is always involved and expensive.
Better to start now, before real decay sets in.
