Me and my R. Secord
acrylic on shaped panel
30 x 36 inches
Jim Sweazy, 1993
Playing with the picture plane by shaping only one side of the image.
This one is nearly all thick impasto, which goes with the heavy message
that the title hints at. Strange but true, we financed much of the
later years of the Viet Nam war by having Air Force General Richard
Secord and the CIA build a Pepsi bottling plant in Thailand. Except
they actually used the sugar imported to the plant to process opium
that Air America brought out of Laos, turning it to heroin which
was then sold on the world market. Pretty crazy.
